If you have ever spent time shopping for great cookware, then you might already know how many possible choices there are on the market.  Cookware is one of those arenas where there are a great many different directions in which one can go. There can be significant differences between the potential picks as well.  Let’s take a look at some of the more popular and time-tested options.

Copper Cookware

Copper cookware has one advantage that is very obvious.  It is quite beautiful.  That fact aside, copper has some other more tangible benefits.  Chefs often like copper cookware because it has heats in an extremely uniform fashion.  Yet, on the downside copper cookware has been known to slightly alter the taste of some kinds of food.  If you are looking for copper cookware, be prepared to spend more money as the copper makes it more expensive, but it does make a great gifts for men in your life.

Stainless Steel

There is a reason that stainless steel is such a popular cookware option.  Stainless steel is widely used because it’s extremely safe and easy to cook with.  Likewise, the fact that so much stainless steel is produced in the world every year helps keep the overall cost low.  You might have noticed that stainless steel pots and pans often have copper on the bottom.  The primary reason for this is that stainless steel does not conduct heat quite as well as other metals such as copper.

Cast Iron

You might remember your grandmother’s cast iron skillets.  Once upon a time, and not very long ago, cast iron was a very popular way for people to cook.  The most obvious disadvantage is that cast iron is very heavy.  If you’ve ever worked with cast iron, you already know how heavy cast iron cookware can be.  Many will find that cast iron can also be a bit tricky to take care of as well.  It needs to be cleaned in a different manner from other cookware.
Another cast iron option is cast iron with enamel.  The reason this option is attractive to many is due to the fact that cast iron with enamel pots and pans are much easier to clean. and can be used much more like one would use a normal skillet or pan for example.

Clad Cookware

Clad cookware takes an idea often used on stainless steel cookware and builds upon it.  Clad cookware is usually made from several layers of metal.  Usually this means that the top layer is made from stainless steel due to the fact that it is easy to clean and maintain.  The layers underneath will be made of materials that conduct heat better than stainless steel, such as copper.  However, aluminum cores are also used commonly as well.  Higher end clad cookware may have several layers of construction in all.  Due to the intensity of manufacture and design, clad cookware has a tendency to be more expensive than some of the other available options.

Lots of Good Options Are Available

The good news is that while considering different kinds of cookware can be a bit confusing, there is no shortage of good options.  With a little research, you should be able to find a cookware option that works for your preferences and your budget.
